Seattle before the rush hour
Waiting for the dawn’s
early rain echoes
trees’ crowns bow
in the twilight,
emerging details a confession
of a morning’s dark plot
that gathers strength in the telling
to the clatter of cereal bowls,
disheveled heads,
the swirl of coffee in cups held by
morning hands, vulnerable;
and inside snug garages,
cars waken.
