Santa Monica Mountains
I would miss
this benign rush of nature,
sky's comfort encroached
by hills' mustard yellow,
a sweltering sun
making the earth her child.

Somewhere below,
a stream and a path meet,
travel together a while,
play hopscotch, and
for a time, find
the effervescence
of small insects
on grass stems.
